Two Sides

The first view inside the front door runs through the house. Glass opens onto the courtyard pool, and beyond the principal rooms is the ocean.

Toward the water, the residence opens through deep covered lānai to the lawn, beach and horizon. On the other side, it wraps around a planted courtyard with a heated pool and spa. One side opens to the coast. The other is sheltered within the house.

The Middle of the Home

The kitchen is where everyone ends up. The courtyard is in one direction and the ocean in the other.

With the glass open, the kitchen and dining area extend toward both sides of the house. The courtyard joins the shared space in one direction; the covered ocean lānai continues it in the other. Rooms open into rooms with little corridor between them, so even at nearly 7,000 square feet, the principal spaces remain close to one another.

The Ocean Side

Covered lānai run along the ocean side on both levels. Downstairs, they extend the principal rooms toward the terrace and lawn while remaining under roof. Upstairs, they give the bedrooms their own outdoor space facing the water. From upstairs, the lawn lies below.

The primary suite is organized around the ocean. The view is present from the bed, sitting room and bath, and the suite opens onto a covered lānai of its own. From upstairs, the lawn lies below and the beach continues along the coast in both directions.

There are five bedrooms in all. One bedroom is on the ground floor with a full ensuite bath, for single-level living inside a two-story house.

The house has room for people to gather and room to separate. It can be full without feeling crowded, and quiet without feeling too large. The courtyard, covered lānai and ocean lawn offer different places to be, with the principal rooms still at the center.

The primary suite is on the top floor, with its own sitting room, bath and covered lānai, so a day can begin and end without a staircase. What it looks out on is the next chapter's business.
